Teens In Action

We are currently accepting organization applications for
Spring 2011 Teens In Action partnerships!

The Ophelia Project and Boys Initiative (OPBI, Inc.) announces new high school civic engagement and service learning program, Teens In Action.  Local organizations can join in and make a difference!  OPBI is now accepting applications for our 2011 Spring projects with local community organizations.

Does your organization have a project that could use some help – but resources such as funds, people and time are limited – then our Teens In Action program is the perfect opportunity for you and your organization.

Partnering organizations will collaborate with our Teens In Action members to work on your project while gaining the experience of service learning.  This effort will not only help your organization but will also contribute to the success of teens in the program by allowing them the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned this Fall – and act!

Attached you will find the application for the partnerships.  Please complete and return to Nikki Stokes, Vice President of Programming, 514-9555 ext. 116 or Dan Ribas, Program Coordinator, 514-9555 ext. 108 by October 1st.   Once all applications have been reviewed, we will contact you and set up a time for your organization to do a presentation on what the project is and how it will benefit the work you do. Click here to download application.

What is Teens In Action?
The purpose of Teens In Action, a 10 month youth development and civic engagement program, is to teach high school youth the social and emotional concepts and skills that will help ensure their success in all aspects of their lives, both as youth and as they become adults.

These concepts and skills are incorporated into five main components of social  emotional learning.  They are:

Self-awareness: Self-identification through diversity characteristics, recognition and management of one’s own emotions, as well as a sense of self-efficacy and self-confidence.

Social awareness:  Developing and demonstrating empathy, understanding, caring and concern for all people as well as respect for all forms of diversity.

Responsible decision making:  Evaluation and personal reflection, and personal and ethical responsibility in good decision making.

Self-management:  Impulse control, stress management, handling challenging situations constructively and ethically as well as demonstrating persistence and healthy goal setting.

Relationship skills:  Cooperation, collaboration, establishing healthy relationships and learning positive communication and problem-solving/conflict resolution skills.
